Jeff Keustermans (b. 1961) studied law in Antwerp and Leuven, and obtained an LL.M. in 1985 at U.C.L.A. (Los Angeles, USA). He began his career with Cleary Gottlieb in New York City (1985-1986) and Brussels (1987-1988). After having started his own law practice (1988-2000), he became a partner with Schuermans & Schuermans (2001-2007). Since November 2007 he is a founding partner of & De Bandt.
Jeff Keustermans has published over 50 legal contributions and several books concerning Belgian and European law with respect to intellectual property and law and technology. He has spoken at many seminars in Belgium and abroad, and has appeared as a guest lecturer at various universities (Leuven, Brussels).
He is a member of the New York Bar and the Brussels Bar. For twenty years he has handled cases in Belgian courts in matters such as copyright, patents, trade and service marks and design rights. He has also frequently litigated issues in technology, internet, software, IT projects, media and entertainment law.
An important part of his practice involves pro-actively counselling clients on the protection of their inventions and intellectual property creations.
He has acted as attorney ("avocat") for software users and suppliers, national and local television stations, telecom companies, fashion designers, opera performers, among other clients, from Belgium and abroad.
Jeff Keustermans has been appointed as arbitrator in several important arbitrations (I.C.C. and Cepina/Cepani). He also has broad experience in complex and international business litigation.
